Rami Malek did not mince words when confronted about the rumors saying he would be playing boxing champ Manny Pacquiao in a biopic.
“I can absolutely deny that. That’s fascinating. No, I will definitely not be playing Manny Pacquiao,” said the Academy Award-winning actor in an interview published by Rappler last Wednesday, January 13.
The “No Time To Die” villain added it was his first time hearing this report, which also says that Leonardo DiCaprio will be taking on the role of Pacquiao’s coach, Freddie Roach.
There may be no truth to these speculations, but we can totally understand why people would link Rami to them, especially after seeing his amazing performance as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Rami believes that if there is truly a Manny Pacquiao biopic in the works, then a Filipino actor should play him. “I think that would be the right choice.”
He added, “If we've learned anything, by certain stretches, an actor can do it. But for someone of Filipino origin, it would be nice to see that person being played by somebody from that country.”
Besides, Rami already has his eyes on another biopic more appropriate for him. “I will put it out there into the world, I love the idea of playing Buster Keaton. I hope that one day, it comes to fruition. I think it will.”
