Directed by Derrick Cabrido, "Clarita" was inspired by the true story of Clarita Villanueva, a Filipina teenager who in the 1950s, gained worldwide attention for allegedly being tormented by demonic beings. During that time, she was put in a Manila penitentiary.
The film received critical acclaim and commercial success following its premiere, earning more than P70 million in the local box office.
Derrick went on to win Best Director at the 40th Oporto International Film Festival - Fantasporto. Prior to that, he also took home the Best Director award at the 10th Mirabile Dictu International Catholic Film Festival in the Vatican.
Derrick will helm the upcoming Pinoy remake of the hit Indian thriller "U Turn" which will star Kim Chiu.
