Sunshine Cruz has opened up about her relationship with her boyfriend businessman Macky Mathay in an interview with Toni Gonzaga on the online talk show "I Feel U" last Sunday, August 2.
Sunshine met Macky four years after her separation from husband Cesar Montano, with whom she has three daughters with.
The "Love Thy Woman" actress said that she was focused on work during that time, but then she received an "unexpected" direct message from Macky.
She recalled, "Merong nag-DM. Nagpakilala na kapatid daw siya ni Ara Mina. Pagkita ko cute naman! So sabi ko, 'Aba, why not ‘di ba?'"
Obviously, things worked out for the two and their relationship has been nothing but great. "Importante si Macky sa akin, hindi lang inspirasyon ang nabibigay niya sa akin, kundi suporta rin [at] pagmamahal hindi lang para sa akin, kundi para rin sa mga anak ko.”
Sunshine shared that it is Macky who accompanies her every time she has PTA meetings at her daughters' school, as well as graduations. "I am very blessed to have someone like him na hindi lang ako ang tanggap, kundi pati na rin ang mga anak ko."
During the interview, Sunshine also received questions from her daughters Angelina, Sam, and Chesca.
Angelina, the eldest, asked her mom, "Did having children stop you from accomplishing your goals?"
Sunshine answered, "Nung nag-asawa ko, choice namin ng ex-husband ko na mag-stop ako ng career just to take care of our family. Choice 'yun. Pero 'yun 'yung isang bagay na hindi ko ire-regret. Maybe kaya nga lumaki silang mababait na bata dahil natutukan at naalagaan ko sila."
Meanwhile, her second daughter Sam, asked, "What was the hardest obstacle you had to go through while being a single mother?"
"I think 'yung time management, kasi sanay na sanay 'yung mga bata na lagi akong nandiyan for them and then suddenly kailangan kong magtrabaho," Sunshine revealed.
As for the youngest, Chesca, she wondered how their mom balances her time for work, family, and herself.
It's all about priorities for the actress. She said, "Kapag meron akong work, I focus on my work. But if walang work, I see to it that I spend time with my children."
Sunshine's proudest moment as a single parent is seeing them grow up as smart and respectful children, even though she raised them in an "imperfect" situation.
"'Yung mga anak ko they're doing well in school, honor student pa nga. Kahit sinong magulang, mapa-proud na ganun. Lahat naman tayo alam na walang perkpektong pamilya, lalo na 'yung sa akin, na I'm a single parent. Pero the fact na nakikita ko na 'yung mga anak ko naman nandun 'yung respeto sa akin, mahal na mahal ako," she said.
