James Younghusband officially retires from football

James Younghusband has officially retired from football after 15 years of playing the sport.

Just less than a year after his brother Phil Younghusband announced his retirement in 2019, the Philippine Azkals star followed his brother's footsteps.

In a series of photos James uploaded on Instagram, June 25, the football veteran reminisced about some of the greatest memories he had on the field.

"Time to say goodbye. Thank you for the amazing memories. I have loved playing this game," he wrote.

He continued, "Thank you to my family, bosses, managers, coaches, teammates, opponents, and all my supporters who have been part of my professional career."

"I feel lucky to have experienced wonderful memories and thankful for every moment of my time with my clubs and country. 🇵🇭⚽❤️" he added.

James began his senior career in AFC Wimbledon and moved to the Philippines in 2011 to play for San Beda FC. He was then part of Meralco Manila and the Davao Aguilas. Prior to his retirement, he was signed in by Ceres-Negros.

He and his brother were also stars of the Philippine national football team in the 2010s.
