Father’s Day was made extra special on last Sunday’s episode of “I Feel U.”
Joining host Toni Gonzaga were Richard Gomez and Ronaldo Valdez, both of whom opened up about their past roles as iconic movie Dads.
Richard, who played Kathryn Bernardo’s father in the hit family drama “Three Words to Forever,” is currently in Ormoc, taking on the role of his people’s father as a Mayor. Richard is so dedicated to public service that “Three Words to Forever” was actually shot largely in his city. The film was also made possible through a collaboration between Star Cinema and Rebisco —it capped the latter’s year-long 55th anniversary celebration.
Another successful collaboration between Star Cinema and Rebisco was “Seven Sundays,” which was top-billed by Ronvaldo. According to the veteran actor, shooting the film alongside Enrique Gil, Cristine Reyes, Dingdong Dantes, and the legendary Aga Muhlach, felt like a "picnic,” more play than work because of how well they all meshed together.
Richard and Ronaldo are both fathers in real life too. Richard has one daughter with wife Lucy Torres-Gomez, Juliana. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has two kids, singer Janno Gibbs and Melissa Gibbs. When asked about their biggest lessons from fatherhood, they put a spotlight on responsibility and respect.
“Bilang haligi ng tahanan, you have to be responsible, you have to be sensible all the time, and you have to be sensitive sa needs ng asawa mo at sa needs ng family mo. And bilang foundation ng family, ikaw ang magse-set ng tone, kung masaya ba 'yung bahay niyo or hindi? Ako...gusto ko laging masaya ang mga tao sa bahay,” Richard said.
As for Ronaldo, he said, “[You have to have] respect for the child. Hindi 'yung old school na 'pag ako ang magulang, 'pag sinabi ko, gagawin mo, 'wag kang sasagot, 'wag kang mangangatwiran, hindi ganoon. Pwede mangatwiran, at pwede sumagot, at 'pag ka na-prove niya na tama siya, tinatanggap ko."
Toni also interviewed The Beks Battalion — Chad Kinis, Lassy and MC — as well as young stars Darren Espanto and Edward Barber for “I Feel U” Episode 7, which you can watch in full here:
