Throughout their nine years as an official love team, we have witnessed Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla grow from being the up-and-coming teenagers to phenomenal actors.
And in celebration of their eighth anniversary as a couple, we are looking back at every movie they have starred in to witness just how much they have improved on their craft:
"24/7 In Love" (2012)
Straight from the success of the teen oriented show “Growing Up,” KathNiel, who were still teenagers at the time, proved that they could go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest Kapamilya stars in their first movie together. Portraying the characters of Jane (Kathryn) and Billy (Daniel), they served as the “bridge” that connected all the six love stories featured in the film.
Just a month after, KathNiel also starred in their first comedy: the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Sisterakas.” Their love story in the movie made us all feel kilig while also serving us major laughs at the same time!
"Must Be...Love" (2013)
The 2013 movie marked KathNiel's first-ever lead role on the big screen and they didn’t disappoint! "Must Be...Love" didn’t just prove that they were well on their way to owning the rom-com genre, it also gave birth to the famous “slow-mo” and “fast forward” moments of Patchot (Kathryn) and Ivan (Daniel)!
"Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay" (2013)
Apart from rom-coms and comedies, KathNiel also proved their prowess in the horror genre with the 2013 movie “Pagpag.” In the flick, Leni (Kathryn) and Cedric (Daniel) tried to find out why their group of friends began dying one-by-one after they visited a wake.
"She's Dating The Gangster" (2014)
KathNiel cemented their status as a major love team in this film, which raked in a whopping P296 million in 2014—quite a feat for a movie at that time. You need only to watch it to understand why it's so popular: Kathryn and Daniel's performances as Athena (Kathryn) and Kenji (Daniel) gave us a roller coaster of emotions.
"Crazy Beautiful You" (2015)
KathNiel broke their own record with this 2015 film, which earned a total of P320 million. It also showed us the bad ass side of Kathryn as Jackie, and the softboi probinsyano side of Daniel as Kiko.
"Barcelona: A Love Untold" (2016)
“Barcelona” is probably one of KathNiel's most memorable projects: not only did they get to work with the esteemed and legendary Olivia Lamasan for the film, they also managed to rake in award after award for their performances. Daniel won as Best Actor in the 65th FAMAS Awards as well as Movie Actor of the Year in the 33rd PMPC Star Awards for Movies. "Barcelona" also won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Production Design awards from FAMAS.
Kathryn and Daniel were hailed as the Box Office King and Queen at the 2017 GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards, proof how far they have come since 2012. Plus: this movie gave us KathNiel’s first kiss on the big screen. It will always be iconic.
"Can't Help Falling in Love" (2017)
They took on more “mature” roles as Gab (Kathryn) and Dos (Daniel) in the 2017 romance, which made every KathNiel fan’s dream come true: it gave us their first big screen wedding! "Can't Help Falling in Love" also gave us a valuable lesson: true love isn't measured with years, but acceptance of each others' most imperfect selves.
"The Hows of Us" (2018)
This beautiful yet heartbreaking love story of Primo (Daniel) and George (Kathryn) didn't just break hearts but also records.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, "The Hows of Us" followed a couple through different stages of love: from puppy high school love to a mature relationship. It gave us a side of KathNiel we have never seen before, and no matter how many times we watch it, it still leaves us bawling like babies.
Happy anniversary, KathNiel! We can't wait to watch more movies with the two of you in the future.
