“Clarita,” produced by ABS-CBN Films, Black Sheep, premiered locally last June. It told the story of Clarita Villanueva, a Filipina teenager who gained worldwide attention during the 1950s after being victimized by demonic possessions while being held in a penitentiary in Manila.
Most of the challenging scenes in the film were done by lead actress Jodi Sta. Maria without a stunt double. She also mastered lines in a handful of languages for her role.

In-depth research on Clarita’s case records was also conducted by the production team in order to keep the retelling of the story realistic and relatively accurate. However, Derick said several sequences were added to fill in gaps in the story.
The film received critical acclaim and commercial success following its premiere, earning more than P70 million in the local box office.
Derick is gearing up for another horror film, this time an adaptation of the Indian movie “U-Turn” with Kim Chiu, JM de Guzman, and Tony Labrusca at the topbill.
