Moira Dela Torre chosen to sing 'Mulan' theme song 'Reflection'

“When I was a young girl, the first song I ever got to sing on my own in front of an audience was ‘Reflection.’ And now, almost 18 years later, I get to sing it in front of the world.”

Moira Dela Torre is the next Filipino singer to be tapped by Disney to sing an official theme song. She will be giving her own rendition to "Reflection" from the "Mulan" live action release.

Walt Disney Studios Philippines revealed the news in a Facebook post earlier today, March 11. The track was originally performed by Lea Salonga in 1998 for the animated movie "Mulan," while Christina Aguilera recorded a studio version of the song in the same year.

The singer-songwriter took to Instagram today to express how happy she was to be chosen.

“When I was a young girl, the first song I ever got to sing on my own in front of an audience was ‘Reflection’ from Disney’s ‘Mulan.’ And now, almost 18 years later, I get to sing it in front of the world,” Moira wrote in the caption.

“The song talks about doubting yourself; about the weak knees that come when you don't feel capable of doing something great–something I find very relatable for a lot of us. Throughout this once-in-a-lifetime experience of lending my voice to ‘Reflection,’ I have faced self-doubt and [so much] fear, thinking I wouldn’t be able to measure up. The thought of having to fill such big shoes was very scary to me until I realized that I was chosen so I could pave my own path,” she revealed.

She continued, “Loyal. Brave. True. These are 3 virtues that continue to guide me as I go through this journey.”

“I strive to stay loyal to the fans who love this song and to my own fans who have loved me in every season. I strive to be brave, making sure that my fears know it can give me weak knees but will never have power over me. And lastly, I strive to remain true to who I am, my style, my voice and most importantly, my story.”

She ended her post with, “I hope my journey encourages you today--that no dream is ever really forgotten, that God is faithful and that you are stronger and braver than you think.”

Congratulations, Moira!
