5 ways to protect yourself against Coronavirus!

As the old saying goes, prevention is better than cure—and there’s no better time to apply it than today, amid the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

In a public advisory released by the World Health Organization (WHO), we were given five preventive measures we can all follow to avoid catching the Coronavirus:

1. Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly

According to WHO, you must wash your hands frequently with soap and water. You must do so for 20-30 seconds. Kanta ka lang in your head ng "Happy Birthday" and you’ll be all good.

But if you’re tired of singing along to “Happy Birthday,” you can try other songs such as the chorus of Gloc-9’s “Simpleng Tao” or you can even recite Bobbie Salazar’s (Bea Alonozo) famous “Bakit parang kasalanan ko?” monologue in “Four Sisters and a Wedding.”

2. Maintain at least one meter social distance

When in a public place, try to maintain at least one meter (three feet) of distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

While the coronavirus may not be airborne, but you can get infected from the small liquid droplets from the nose or mouth of a person carrying the disease. Avoid contact as much as you can.

As preventive measure, ABS-CBN has temporarily suspended its live studio audience admission for its shows to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among the audience.

3. Practice good respiratory hygiene

Apart from maintaining social distance, it’s also best to practice good respiratory hygiene. Always cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, and immediately dispose of any used tissues or wipes.

4. Avoid touching M.E.N

M.E.N, which stands for Mouth, Eyes, and Nose, should not be touched as much as possible. Our hands are highly exposed to items that have the virus, after all.

5. Seek medical care if you experience symptoms

If, for any reason, you’ve followed the previous steps but still feel sick, seek medical care immediately. Initial symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, dry cough, and difficulty breathing. GO to the doctor if you are experiencing any of this.

Be informed and stay safe, Kapamilya!
