8 times Sarah Geronimo shaped pop culture

Like it or not, Sarah Geronimo is the country’s undisputed pop titan. With millions of albums sold, she has been winning our hearts with infectious pop hits and ballads.

In the movies, she captured our hearts as the wacky but lovable Laida Magtalas. But did you know she’s affected Pinoy culture in many more ways?

Below are some of the most memorable moments in the Pop Royalty’s career that helped shape pop culture as we know it today. We have no choice but to stan!

TV: When she played Dorina in “Bituing Walang Ningning”

Imagine the level of pressure she must have felt resuscitating a character originally played by the one and only Megastar Sharon Cuneta in the original film. Thankfully, Sarah G proved she was more than capable of embodying Dorina’s innate talent and showing her vulnerable side.

Film: When she did the now-iconic “sun dance” in “A Very Special Love”

Her movie "A Very Special Love" is memorable for a lot of reasons (remember that “lock the door when you leave” scene?) but it is Ladia’s sun dance that stuck the most with audiences. The question is… does a sun dance actually work?

Film: Being in one of the most successful movie trilogies of all time

Sarah G is one of the very few actresses to have starred in a box-office-hit trilogy, which began with “A Very Special Love” in 2008, then “You Changed My Life” in 2009, and finally, “It Takes A Man and A Woman” in 2013. Queen of selling movie tickets!

Film: Being hailed as the Box Office queen

The GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards called her the Box Office Queen in 2009, 2010, and 2014, tying with Kris Aquino and Ai Ai de las Alas with three wins apiece. The power that she has!

Music: Serving us three infectious pop hits: “Ikot-Ikot”, “Kilometro”, and “Tala”

If anyone says OPM is dead, play these songs. You’re welcome.

Music: Consistently being the most streamed Pinoy artist on Spotify

Sarah G was the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2014 and 2015, and if not on top, she has been consistently on the list. The reason? The fact that she’s not afraid to experiment with and fuse different genres. We love a queen who’s constantly evolving her artistry.

Music: When “Tala” became the default dance number in Christmas parties in 2019

“Tala” is the most iconic song of the last decade. #FactsAreFacts! It’s catchy and the choreography is pretty fun to learn. It was the official Christmas party song of 2019. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” found dead in a ditch. Ugh, her mind!

Music: When she was included in BuzzFeed’s “The 20 Filipino Music Artists You Need To Listen Right Now” in 2014.

Um, a little late, but sure.

Music: When “This I5 Me” became the highest grossing Filipino concert of all time.

In 2018, Sarah G’s concert was reported to be the highest earning local concert in history. It was also the number one trending topic on Twitter with over 200,000 retweets. It’s what she deserves 💅
