2 Miss Universe PH candidates test positive for COVID-19; pull out of the pageant

Two Miss Universe Philippines candidates have pulled out of the pageant, a week before the event this Sunday, October 25.

Last October 15, Sorsogon representative Maria Isabela Galeria shared her decision to no longer compete in the pageant across her social media accounts.

She tested positive for COVID-19 last September and was declared free of COVID-19 on October 11.

However, Maria Isabela said that her body is not "well-conditioned yet" and she needs more time to rest.

"With a heavy heart, I believe now is not the right time to join the pageant. I still feel tired, and I don't think my body will allow me to participate in the activities of Miss Universe Philippines," she wrote in an Instagram post.

"I hope you understand this is something beyond my control. I've thought hard and cried for so many nights about this. I have the willpower, but my body is not cooperating. I'm praying for your utmost understanding. I love you all!! Mahal na Mahal ko kamo!! 😭♥️" she added.

Cagayan de Oro representative Vincy Vacalares also withdrew from the pageant. She announced the news in an Instagram post last October 16.

In the post, Vincy said that she tested positive for coronavirus last October 14.

"With a heavy heart, allow me to break the news to all of you that I tested positive for COVID-19 last October 14. This means that I will not be able to continue with my journey to the Miss Universe Philippines crown this year. ✨👑🌎" she wrote.
