"Jake and Charice," a documentary about Filipino singer Jake Zyrus, won in the Non Scripted category under the LGBT+ section at a French trade show.
On Wednesday, October 14, Jake shared the wonderful news on Instagram.
He wrote, "Thank you MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards for recognizing my story."
MIPCOM is an annual international trade event. According to their site, they serve as a platform for groundbreaking partnerships among global media and the entertainment industry.
Jake thanked the people who made the documentary possible. He said, "Thank you to my TEAM for the support system, ABS-CBN, and most of all, NHK (Hiroko, Akiko, Ma'am Teresita & Yusaku) for believing in me and my story."
The documentary's synopsis read, "Once a world-renowned Filipina singer with a Billboard Top 10 album, Charice gave up her 'miracle voice' to become Jake, a transgender man. The program follows Jake as he relaunches his career, struggles to make peace with his family, and seeks his true voice."

Before clinching a top award at MIPCOM, "Jake and Charice" won the Gold Camera Award in the 2020 US International Film and Video Festival. It also got a nomination from the 2020 International Emmy Awards under the Arts Programming category.
Formerly known as Charice Pempengco, Jake came out as a lesbian in 2013.
In June 2017, he officially changed the name of his official social media handles to Jake Zyrus.
