ABS-CBN just made its first foray into Hollywood television production!
Last Friday, September 20, the Kapamilya network signed a partnership with the American film and television outfit Electric Entertainment to produce the crime series “Off Tropic,” which will air in the U.S. through the cable company WGN America. The project will be set in Cebu, with production slated to start in November.
ABS-CBN Chairman Mark L. Lopez, President and CEO Carlo L. Katigbak, International Scripted Formats and Co-Production Division Head Ruel S. Bayani, and Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast Cory V. Vidanes welcomed the people behind Electric Entertainment including its CEO Dean Devlin, actor Christian Kane, and Executive Producer Francis de la Torre.
In a press statement released by the network, Dean explained why they decided to partner with ABS-CBN.
He said, “They have been so instrumental in the development of talent here both in front and behind the camera. I think they have the most experience and they have just been amazing partners. This is going to change the way people perceive the entertainment business in the Philippines.”
This is not the first time ABS-CBN has partnered with an international production outfit. The network currently has existing collaborations and partnerships with other companies based in Southeast Asia, U.S., and Europe.
Just last year, the Kapamilya network inaugurated two of its new sound stages which were built to make local production at par with the international scene.
