You've probably seen him in countless television series and movies, but Zaijian Jaranilla will always be remembered for one iconic role.
It was 10 years ago when the actor first rose to stardom after playing the role of Santino, an orphan living in a church convent and raised by priests in the drama series "May Bukas Pa."
His excellent portrayal of the character touched the hearts of viewers, making the program among the top rating primetime series at that time. It also became the inspiration behind the now classic Christmas song "Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko," which was the Kapamilya network's yuletide season station identification that year.
During the annual ABS-CBN Ball last Saturday, September 14, the now-teenage actor decided to pay homage to the place where he spent most of his days while taping the role, the famous San Guillermo Parish, a church in Bacolor, Pampanga that was buried by lahar following the Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991.
According to him, his modern piña cocoon Barong Tagalog, which depicts the facade of the said heritage landmark, was designed by Kapampangan designer Budi Mallari, and was handpainted by Khasu Canlapan.
He said, "Siya [Budi] po 'yung nagpresent sa akin ng ganitong design."
"Doon din po ako nakilala, kaya gusto kong parang throwback po, parang ganoon. 10 years po," the actor continued.
A few months ago, as part of ABS-CBN's Kwentong Kapamilya campaign for its 65th anniversary, he also returned to the place and met with people whose lives were touched by his hit show.
Zaijian was part of the 2017 fantasy series "Bagani." He also starred in various Star Cinema films including "24/7 in Love," and "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!"
