Alex Gonzaga and her sister Toni Gonzaga just teamed up for the much-awaited 2019 Himig Handog songwriting competition!
Well, their collaboration for this year’s edition is not your usual one. Alex interpreted the upbeat song "Please Lang", while Toni lent her voice for its backup vocals.
In a video posted by ABS-CBN Star Music earlier this month, Alex said this of her inclusion in Himig Handog this year, "Siyempre natutuwa ako kasi isa ako sa mga napili."
Meanwhile, Toni, who is making her return to the contest after six years, revealed that it was actually Star Music executive Jonathan Manalo’s decision to tap her for the track’s back-up vocals.
“Ako naman tinawagan ni Jonathan to do the back-up vocals kasi very tricky 'yung song, it is such an upbeat song, it is so full of life na parang mas masaya kung dalawang boses yung magco-collab for the song,” she said.
Songwriter Michael Angelo Aplacador shared that his latest work was for people who are desperate to fall in love, saying, “Ang istroya po ng 'Please Lang' ay para po sa desperadong magka-love life.”
“Noong bata ka, kumbaga ang laging bilin ng mga magulang o nakatatanda sa atin na ‘wag ka munang mag-jojowa, and habang lumalaki ka, nag-focus ka sa school, nag-focus ka sa work, nagkakaroon ka ng edad, tapos sila na dating pumipigil, sila na ngayon ‘yung nag-pupush sayo,” he continued.
“Please Lang” is among the 12 finalists who will battle it out to be the grand winner for this year’s Himig Handog.
