People love movies but for kids from the 1990s, nothing beats the classic “Magic Temple,” which was probably the biggest film of its generation.
The film, which was helmed by the late legendary director Peque Gallaga and co-written by Lore Reyes and Erik Matti, centered on the story of three teenage boys who went on an unexpected journey in the mystical world of Samadahi, whose stone of balance was destabilized by the evil and powerful being Ravenal.
The trio, who all possessed their own unique powers, overcame traps and battled evil forces, together with other creatures that they met along the way, restoring peace in their world.
Just earlier today, August 15, one of the film’s stars shared an ultimate throwback from those days which would surely give every 90s kid nostalgic feels.
On his Instagram account, Marc Solis shared their photo taken during the 1996 Metro Manila Film Festival’s annual Parade of Stars.
“MMFF Parade 1996 #MagicTemple #ThrowbackThursday #Batang90s #TBT,” he captioned.
The film was Star Cinema’s official entry to the film festival’s 22nd edition.
“Magic Temple” also emerged victorious that year after beating five other entries and bagging 14 awards in the festival, including the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Best Float, Best Sound Recording, Best Make-up Artist, Best Visual Effects, Best Musical Score, Best Original Theme Song, Best Screenplay, Best Original Story, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Director, and Best Film.
Two decades after it first premiered, “Magic Temple,” which has already been digitally restored and remastered, still continues to amaze everyone who has had the chance to witness its epic adventure.
Happy anniversary, "Magic Temple"!
