Robin Padilla has flown to Sulu to attend a forum organized by the local government together with the Philippine Army.
In an Instagram post last Sunday, July 7, the actor shared photos of the event where he joined other military officials in speaking to the youth sector to educate them on extremism and to promote peace in the region.
Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala thanked the actor for his efforts and welcomed his desire to be an Army reservist.
"We thank Mr. Robin Padilla for his time and effort to advocate peace and unity to the people especially those who are affected by the threat of violent extremists. We welcome his desire to join the Army Reserve Component and contribute more to the Army's thrusts of nation-building. All citizens, whether celebrity or ordinary, are highly encouraged to join us in serving the people and securing the land," he said.
Robin announced his intention to join the Philippine armed forces last month. He is also a known advocate of the reimposition of the mandatory Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) among Senior High School students.
He will be the second celebrity to join the military following Matteo Guidicelli, who recently completed his Scout Ranger training in Bulacan.
Robin starred in the 2017 rom-com "Unexpectedly Yours" with Sharon Cuneta, Joshua Garcia, and Julia Barretto.
