Former "Pinoy Big Brother: Otso" housemate Diana Mackey's mother, Rowena Cariaga, has apologized over her rude behavior towards Melai Cantiveros.
During the show's live telecast last Saturday, July 6, Rowena became visibly emotional following her daughter’s eviction and seemed to have pushed the host before walking out of the frame.
The incident trended online over the weekend and caught the ire of netizens, who deemed her behavior “disrespectful.”
Meanwhile, Melai's co-host Bianca Gonzalez-Intal took to Twitter a few hours after the incident to defend Rowena’s reaction.
"She was just being a mom. Mahirap talaga kasi siyempre pa-Big Four na tapos doon pa na-evict. Iba-iba din talaga tayo ng way ng pag-express ng disappointment or lungkot. Melai did so well." she wrote.
In a Facebook group, Rowena offered an apology to Melai, explaining that it was not her intention to hurt the host and was only driven by emotions. She also expressed gratitude towards her daughter's supporters.
"Kay Ms. Melai gusto kong mag-apologize ‘di ko naman intention matabig siya dahil para sa akin biro lang at ‘di ko sinasadya 'yun. Naging emotional lang ako pero ‘di ako nagagalit," she wrote.
Melai posted a screenshot of said comment on her Instagram yesterday, July 8, to finally straighten out the issue. In the caption, she wrote, "Pero ako na nagsasabi na di naman ako nasaktan at naiintindihan ko ang pinagdadaanan ng Mama ni Diana, kaya 'wag na kayo mabahala kasi kahit ako din alam ko na 'di para sa akin ang emosyon ni Mommy kundi sa sitwasyon."
