Teresa Loyzaga has opened up about her past mental health struggles.
In an interview on the morning show “Magandang Buhay” last July 1, the actress urged people to be more “open” about their mental health, having observed that there is no proper discourse around depression in our country
“Parang napansin ko lang sa society natin, hindi masyadong napag-uusapan ang depression,” she said, “At the more na hindi natin ito pinag-uusapan, the more hindi natin ito maiintindihan.”
Teressa went through depression a few years back. She revealed, “Kahit na ako, dumaan din ako sa depression.”
“Noong na-realize ko na mag-isa na lang ako, paano ko itataguyod ang pamilya ko and all that, tapos ganito lang ang trabaho ko, paano ko babayaran ‘to? Ang daming questions,” the actress recalled.
She then gave some advice for people suffering through what she did.
“Alam mo, you deal it one step at a time. You reach out. Humingi kayo ng tulong,” she said.
Teresa also pointed out the importance of having a good support system, especially within the family, in order to overcome the depressive episodes.
She shared, “Ang maganda diyan is kung mayroon kang good family support. ‘Yung ipaalam mo sa miyembro ng pamilya mo. Huwag mo ng hanapin kung saan-saan.”
The actress also expressed her gratitude to people who continue to support her son Diego Loyzaga, who is currently spending time away from the limelight.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who keeps in touch with him and with myself. Mga nangungumusta, and praying for him and wishing him well. Thank you very much!”
Teresa was part of the 2017 drama series “Hanggang Saan.” She also starred in the teen romance film “Para sa Hopeless Romantic” in 2015.
