Zephanie Dimaranan bags first ‘Idol Philippines’ grand title

Teen singer Zephanie Dimaranan is the first “Idol Philippines” grand winner!

From the thousands who auditioned and after months of competition, Zephanie emerged as this season’s top contender during the grand finale last night, July 28.

The singer garnered a total of 100 percentage points, combined from the votes of the judges and viewers, beating her fellow finalists Lucas Garcia and Lance Busa, who came in second and third with 70.2 and 41.89 percent of combined votes, respectively.

Celebrities and personalities were among those who expressed their congratulations and well wishes for the young star’s victory—Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, Juan Miguel Severo, Jason Dy, Erik Santos, Gary Valenciano, and more.

In an interview with “Rated K” which aired last night, Zephanie, who hails from Laguna, revealed that her singing talent runs in her blood.

“Nasa dugo na po namin siguro na marunong pong kumanta, sa side po ni Daddy. Then, siguro, namana ko po 'yun, and three-years-old po nagstart na po akong kumanta. Tapos sumasali po ako ng mga competition and kumakanta po ako sa mga school programs, and sa church po namin,” she revealed

Zephanie might be young, but she is not a newbie to various singing competitions. She joined the second season of “The Voice Kids” in 2015 and became a contestant under the mentorship of Popstar Royalty, Sarah Geronimo.

Unfortunately, she and her fellow teammate under Team Sarah, Kyle Echarri, failed to enter the grand finals after garnering the lowest points during the semi-finals.

Zephanie also tried her luck in the second season of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment of the noontime variety show “It’s Showtime!” in 2018 but lost to Janine Berdin who later became the season’s grand finalist.

In spite of all the disappointments that she encountered, she never gave up and now, she just proved that third time’s the charm.

Zephanie is now set to start her journey as a recording artist, and we all can’t wait for her to shine even more.

Congratulations and continue reaching for your dreams, Zephanie!
