Dimples Romana has played a lot of roles in movies, but her own story is also worthy of the big screen.
The actress, who grew up with a simple family, needed to enter the showbiz industry at a young age to be able to help her parents.
In an interview with Korina Sanchez on “Rated K” which aired last night, July 28, Dimples revealed that she felt the urge to help her family when she was still young.
“Noong bata ako, I had a sister who had leukemia at five-years-old. Nine na ako noon. So, kinamulatan ko ‘yun. We used to live sa bahay ng Mama ni Papa. Si Papa, nagtatrabaho siya sa post office. Si Mama naman po, sinasamahan si Pebbles, ‘yung sister ko to hospitals. May mga hinihingan po ng tulong si Papa. Because we did not have much, I would go to a public school, and then I realized, ay, this is not the normal childhood that a child would have,” she shared.
The actress became a part of ABS-CBN’s talent workshops, and the grief that she felt following her sister’s death eventually helped her develop her acting skills.
"Noong dinala ako sa ABS-CBN, parang tinanong ako kung saan ako magaling. Eh mahiyain ako noong time na 'yun, 'di naman ako kumakanta, 'di ako sumasayaw. Pero noong nag-workshop, iyakin ako kasi kamamatay lang ng kapatid ko. Sabi nila, 'ah, sa drama 'to.' Doon po nagstart," she emotionally recalled.
On her fourth year in the industry, Dimples’ father passed away due to complications from an aneurysm. The actress needed to stop pursuing her studies and to continue acting to support her family, saying, “Tinry ko pa ring mag-aral noon eh. Tapos parang na-realize ko, hindi, ano na, uunahin ko na muna 'yung pamilya ko.”
Dimples later married Boyet Ahmee, had her own family and children, but she never stopped supporting her family, and even surprised her mother with a new house and lot.
Dimples is currently at the peak of her career with the success of the afternoon drama series “Kadenang Ginto,” where is plays the antagonistic role of Daniela Mondragon.
She is also set to be a part of a film alongside Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, and Tony Labrusca, which will be Star Cinema’s entry to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival in December.
