‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ ending its 14-year run

“Goin’ Bulilit, Goin’ Bulilit, kami naman ang hihirit. Goin’ Bulilit, Goin’ Bulilit, kuwela, cute at makulit.” ♪ ♫

During our younger years, most of us would rush to our living rooms upon hearing those lines. After our parents watched the rundown of news on “TV Patrol Linggo,” it was our time to invade our TV sets by tuning in to “Goin’ Bulilit.”

For adults, the program was just an ordinary children’s program with jokes that are too corny for them. But for us kids back then, it gave us our weekly dose of laughter.

We may no longer watch the program regularly like we did those days, but we all became sad upon hearing that “Bulilit” is now down to its last two weeks.

ABS-CBN made the announcement in a program teaser that was released for its upcoming episode. There were no reasons indicated behind its finale finale, but it made a lot of us feel emotional and nostalgic.

Since its inception in 2005, the program featured a number of young talents, with most becoming the country's brightest stars, and some, now professionals taking on the real world. “Goin’ Bulilit” has indeed become an institution that gave young stars their big breaks.

On Twitter yesterday, July 25, Sharlene San Pedro, one of the program’s pioneers, made a tribute to the program by sharing throwback photos and her cute audition video.

Miles Ocampo, who expressed that she is a “proud Bulilit,” shared the story of how she got into the program.

“‘Di ko makakalimutan ‘yung unang audition ko for ‘Bulilit.’ Nandoon si Direk B (Edgar 'Bobot' Mortiz). Madami tinanong sa amin pero tandang tanda ‘yung isang tanong niya na, “Paano magalit nanay mo sayo?” Eh laging galit nanay ko noong bata ako, na perfect ko ata! 😂 #KwentongBulilit #GoodbabyeBulilit,” she wrote.

The program’s headwriter, Josel Garlitos, also took to Instagram yesterday to ask netizens to share their #KwentongBulilit.

The show may soon vacate their timeslot and take its final curtain call, but everyone who grew up watching this show will  cherish the happy moments it had, and keep them alive in their hearts forever.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and so we say goodbye to “Goin’ Bulilit.”
