Film director Jerrold Tarog said he wanted to open the role of Darna to all Filipino women!
In an interview aired on “TV Patrol” on July 19, the director revealed that, out of the almost 300 auditionees, 10 names were shortlisted and three of them were presented to the ABS-CBN management.
Apparently, it was him who suggested that auditions be open to every aspiring Filipina.
“Sabi ko, i-open niyo lahat ‘yan, kahit chinita, or mestiza, or kahit ano. So, may top three ako, pero pagkatapos ng entire presentation ko, parang lahat sila doon lang sa isa nakatingin,” he said.
Last Wednesday, July 17, Star Cinema Managing Director Olivia Lamasan finally revealed that Jane de Leon is the lucky actress who will take on the iconic superhero role in its upcoming reboot.
In an Instagram post that day, Jane thanked everyone who trusted her, and promised to give her everything for the project.
“MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT PO SA TIWALA! Pangako po na pagtratrabahuhan ko po ito at ibibigay ko ang lahat. 🙏🏻❤️ #Narda #DARNA #SOON,” she wrote.
Preparations for the project are underway and, just yesterday, July 18, auditions for the role of young Narda were opened.
Direk Jerrold has yet to announce when principal filming will begin for the reboot which, according to earlier report by ABS-CBN News, will be shot in the recently-opened ABS-CBN Soundstages in Bulacan.
