They may be on-screen enemies, but legends Sharon Cuneta and Cherie Gil are good friends in real life!
The actresses starred in the 1980s classic film "Bituing Walang Ningning," and their heated exchange in the film — who could forget the line: "You're nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!" — is probably one of the most iconic in Philippine cinema.
And last Saturday, July 13, Sharon and Cherie went out for dinner and made a re-enactment of the iconic “copycat” scene, much to the delight of their fans.
But this time, they decided to give it a little twist by switching roles, with Cherie acting as Dorina Pineda, and Sharon being the antagonistic and envious Lavinia Arguelles, giving her the chance to utter the film’s famous line.
The video was posted on Instagram by Cherie, captioning it with a message for her dear friend.
"Mission accomplished! Thank you for being the best friend ever. And for being game always and for a wonderful evening and for your lovely children and for the gift of you and your big heart! Love you." she wrote.
Aside from the classic flick, the actresses also starred together in several movies in the late ‘80s.
Sharon served as a judge in "Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids" and a coach in the Kids and Teen editions of "The Voice." She also starred in the 2017 rom-com "Unexpectedly Yours" and the 2018 family drama "Three Words to Forever."
Cherie's last project in the Kapamilya network is the 2016 teleserye "Dolce Amore." She was also a part of the 2018 film "Kasal."
