Eddie Garcia's family have decided to grant his dying wish, to have his remains cremated once he passes on.
In a 2012 interview with ABS-CBN News, it may be recalled that the veteran actor shared how he wanted his funeral to happen, saying "Gusto ko from death bed, diretso sa crematorium. Pagkatapos, may kaibigan akong piloto, kukunin ‘yung ashes ko, ikakalat sa dagat sa Manila Bay."
He never wanted any fanfare over his death, but with the great legacy he left, no one could stop the entire showbiz industry from mourning its loss.
Meanwhile, his family planned to hold a wake for the veteran actor in order to also his fans to pay their last respects. According to the latest announcement coming from his family, the wake will start at 3PM on Friday, June 21, and will last until Sunday, June 23. They also asked for prayers for the eternal repose of his soul.
Eddie died on Thursday, June 20, nearly two weeks after an accident while taping a television series. Officiall diagnosis showed that he suffered from a neck fracture. He remained in a comatose state, depending on a ventilator and medication to maintain his blood pressure. His family also agreed to place him on DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) status last June 15.
The actor, who was considered as one of the greatest Filipino actors, left a legacy spanning over 70 years.
Despite his age, he fearlessly accepted movie and television roles offered to him. He also became a part of Star Cinema films: he was in the 2014 hit “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” and in the 2017 action-fantasy “Ang Panday.” He was also part of the hit primetime series "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano."
