Veteran actor Eddie Garcia was recognized for his exceptional acting prowess in the 42nd Gawad Urian Awards.
The ceremony, which was held at the University of the Philippines Film Institute, was well-attended by the country's brightest stars.
Eddie, who remains in critical condition after suffering a neck fracture while taping a TV program, was named Best Actor for his portrayal of a military officer during the Marcos’ martial rule in the independent film “ML.”
Film director Benedict Mique was the one who received the award on behalf of the actor. He also read a message from the actor’s family.
After the event, the director posted a photo on Facebook showing the actor touching the trophy while holding a rosary.
According to the latest bulletin released by Dr. Artemio Salvador on June 19, Eddie remains dependent on a ventilator and medication to maintain his blood pressure. His latest electroencephalogram (EEG) study also showed minimal brain activity.
In order to prevent further complications from occurring, visitations are still strictly limited.
The actor's kin also agreed to place him on a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) status last June 15.
Eddie, who has been active in the industry for over seven decades, was last seen on ABS-CBN's hit primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” alongside Coco Martin. He also appeared in the 2014 blockbuster “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” and in the 2017 action-fantasy “Ang Panday.”
