It takes some serious guts to sing a Regine Velasquez song, but to sing it in front of Asia's Songbird herself? Alyssa Quijano just did THAT.
On the April 28 episode of "Idol Philippines", the 26-year-old hopeful was braver than the marines when she sang a rendition of Regine's timeless classic "Araw-Gabi" as her audition piece.
But then again, she wouldn't have done it if she knew she couldn't pull it off, and pull it off she did with a performance that left the judges in awe.
"I have to say, you did it perfectly," Regine commended. "I loved the way you sang it. You gave it your own twist, you gave it your own version."
She even praised Alyssa for choosing to continue her journey in spite of the personal challenges she faced in recent years.
"I am so happy you're back. You're meant to do this, sweetheart,” Regine pressed.
Moira Dela Torre also praised Alyssa's performance, saying, "Never, ever, ever put your dreams on hold ever again. Because this is clearly for you. Sobrang galing.”
Earning approval from all of the judges, Alyssa advanced to the next round with a golden ticket to Idol City.
Alyssa took a break from her singing career when she got in a relationship with her now-ex, Jake Zyrus. Their relationship lasted for four years before ultimately splitting up in 2017. Now, she's back in the game and plans to pursue her dreams while finishing a degree in Medical Technology.
