Kathryn Bernardo is moving forward.
Through an open letter published on Preview.ph, the actress opened up about her decision to reach new heights outside of her established and successful love team with real-life boyfriend Daniel Padilla. She's taking this step forward, she says, to break out of her shell.
She said, "If there’s anything I’ve learned while working in this industry all these years, it’s the constant need to evolve. I’ve seen stars rise and fall, and more often than not, the greatest tragedy is when they choose to live in a box...I took things gradually because I felt it was the right thing to do. But as I grew older, I felt it was about time to finally break out of that shell. While I don’t regret taking my time to grow, I also don’t intend to get left behind."
Kathryn also clarified that the end of KathNiel's professional relationship will not extend to their personal life. She wrote of Daniel, "He’s a big part of what makes me who I am today. He’s played a crucial role in helping me become not only a better actress but also a better person. Some of you might already be aware of this, but late last year, we made a mutual decision to not accept projects together this 2019. We both know it’s going to be tough for both of us and maybe even tougher for our fans, but we really gave it some thought, and while there’s nothing we want more than to make you happy, we’d appreciate if you can give us this year to pursue our individual growth this time around."
"It’s a risk, and I’d be lying if I told you that the idea doesn’t scare me, but at the same time, I’m excited to discover what kind of opportunities await us both in this journey."
She pressed, "Needless to say, DJ and I will still be here; I will always have his back in the same way that I know he always has mine. It’s just that, in the meantime, we want to support each other off-cam."
KathNiel topbilled the worldwide Cathy Garcia-Molina blockbuster hit "The Hows of Us" in 2018. That same year, Kathryn joined forces with Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez for the family drama "Three Words to Forever".
Daniel has been tapped for a new project with legendary actress Charo Santos-Concio, according to a teaser from ABS-CBN Films Executive Adviser for Cinema Malou N. Santos.
Kathryn is slated to reunite with Direk Cathy in an upcoming film with Alden Richards. It will be shot in Hong Kong.
