We're only a few days away from Christmas, and what better way to feel the holiday spirit than gathering some family for a much-deserved movie marathon?
Through the years, Star Cinema has given us some quality family-themed movies that moved us, made us laugh, cry, and of course, have compassion towards the people who love us the most. All of them are quite perfect for your yuletide binge fest, but below are five that you absolutely need to rewatch:
This classic from 2000 looks into the story of long-estranged siblings who return home to take care of their ailing mother. As they reunite, old arguments and resentments are brought back, causing much more chaos to their family. That challenges that brought them together will also be the reason for them to rekindle their bond.
This Lualhati Bautista classic was among the films produced for the 2002 Metro Manila Film Festival. Set in the 1970s under the Marcos regime, the flick looks into the life of a mother whose five sons bristle at life. After becoming a victim of extremist violence, she begins her search to look for her own dissident voice.
This 90s classic presents the story of an orphan who is in search of her long-lost father. With her guardian angel, she was able to reunite with her father for a short while. "Wansapanataym" proves that everything would be possible with deep love and faith.
"Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa"
This adaptation of another Lualhati Bautista novel premiered in 1998. It tackles the story of a non-conformist mother who shuns the stereotypes of the majority. Despite of all the challenges that she faces while taking care of her children, she only proves how deep her love is for them.
First shown in 2000, "Anak" continues to be among the best family-themed OFW movies ever. A mother, who struggles for a living in Hong Kong, returns home after years of being away from her family. In spite of all the sacrifices she made for her children, she has a hard time in reconnecting with them. Love, however, heals the wounds in their hearts.
