“Clarita” director Derick Cabrido emerged victorious after being honored with the Best Director award at the 10th Mirabile Dictu International Catholic Film Festival in the Vatican.
“Clarita”, topbilled by Jodi Sta. Maria, was also among the chosen entries for the festival’s main competition.
The ABS-CBN Films, Black Sheep-produced horror thriller, which premiered in the country last June, looked into the tale of Clarita Villanueva, a Filipina teenager who gained worldwide attention during the 1950s after being victimized by demonic possessions while being held in a penitentiary in Manila.
Most of the challenging scenes in the film were done by Jodi herself without a stunt double. She also mastered lines in a handful of languages for her role.
In-depth research on Clarita’s case records was also conducted by the production team in order to keep the retelling of the story realistic and relatively accurate. However, several sequences were added to fill in gaps in the story.
The film received critical acclaim and commercial success following its premiere, earning more than P70 million in the local box office.
Congratulations to Derick and to everyone in Team “Clarita”!
