I’m not a fan of Filipino movies, and hate love stories with the same plot. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a very romantic person and watching romance movies is one of my obsessions. But most of my friends recommended that I watch "The Hows of Us," so I gave it a try because it’s a Cathy Garcia-Molina film.
George (Kathryn Bernardo) and Primo (Daniel Padilla) are schoolmates who fall in love. She’s preparing for medical school and he’s a musician waiting for his band to hit it big. Together, in a house they inherited from George’s grand aunt (Susan Africa), they dream of success and promise to support each other no matter what happens.
But the opposite occurs. Primo does not get the big break he’s waiting for and becomes an arrogant and difficult person who can’t make ends meet. The ever-faithful George stays true to her promise and supports Primo through it all. That is until she reaches her breaking point. She tells him to leave, and he does without second thought. Years later he comes back a changed man. Can she still give him a second chance?
My first impression is that the plot is a real tearjerker because the movie shows the ups and down of a real-life relationship. It’s like watching a real couple. Kathryn and Daniel moved me with their talent.
The movie also showed beautiful scenic places in Amsterdam as KathNiel visited the Rijkmuseum, Royal Palace, and the countryside.
The Hows of Us" did not disappoint me although it started slow and I felt anxious to know what will happen next. But as the movie progressed, I came to a conclusion that this is KathNiel's best work. I’m looking forward to seeing them again and they restored my faith in Filipino romantic movies.
This is a movie that showed scenes that can happen in real life. The difficulties, commitment, sacrifices, and patience of a struggling couple and both sides of a relationship are shown here. To top it off, there are lots of quotable quotes that serve as valuable pieces of advice.
While watching it, I experienced hate, sadness, excitement, and happiness. I can’t help but become teary-eyed at some scenes and cried for almost 30 minutes in the theater.
The movie showed a selfless kind of love. It is for people who put their partners first before themselves.
