Two years after going on a film directing hiatus, Direk Andoy Ranay is very excited to be back in the game once again with his newest project “Open,” which will star two of the finest actors of this generation, Arci Muñoz and JC Santos.
At the film’s story conference earlier today, September 17, Direk Andoy shared that the film will be about childhood sweethearts, Ethan (JC) and Rome (Arci) who are about to tie the knot. They suddenly thought of an experiment a few weeks before the wedding – to go in an open relationship in the hopes of strengthening their commitment to each other once they get married.
Will their open relationship do them any good, or will they end up risking the relationship they have long treasured for 15 years?
Dito sa Pilipinas, hindi naman siya (open relationship) pinag-uusapan pero nangyayari so parang panahon na para ikuwento ‘yung ganitong parte naman ng society,” he said.
The lead stars are also both excited and nervous to tackle such a “sensitive” topic in film, especially since it’s their first time to work together.
Actually kinakabahan akong gawin 'to,” JC said.
Mahirap 'to ah. Kasi marami siyang pinu-pull na strings of emotions na hindi mo usually madadaanan sa mga teleserye at pelikula. Sobrang kakaiba siya. Of course sensitive ‘yung topic, open relationship," he furthered.
Although the story is quite serious and is far from the projects she usually does, Arci is up to take the challenge.
For me it's a very sensitive topic. Maybe it's the perfect timing for us to open and mabigyan ng kaunting discussion kasi sa totoong buhay nangyayari talaga siya," Arci shared.
While the film is interesting by nature, will the audience actually be ready in such a mature and controversial plot?
The information naman that people are getting now is through social media, they are becoming more exposed. The internet is open, so let's all be open. Now is the time – it's about time to tell the story. The film is brave, and I took the challenge. I'm ready to dive myself into it," Direk Andoy said.
Open” also stars Nikki Valdez, Alexa Ilacad, Vance Larena, and Agot Isidro, and will be produced by T-Rex Entertainment and ABS-CBN Films’ new production outfit Black Sheep.
