"Suicide doesn't take away the pain, it gives it to someone else."
Suicide rates have increased by 60% in the last 45 years, according to Befrienders Worldwide (https://www.befrienders.org), an organization committed to improving suicide and emotional support services.
Every 40 seconds, one suicide occurs. And in the next seconds, a mother cries for her son, a father longs for his princess, a person misses her best friend, and a lover yearns for their significant other.
And today, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. A day to remind us that in our own ways, we can help save those who're thinking of taking their own lives.
A genuine smile can serve as a first aid, an act of kindness can be the fastest remedy, a listening ear can be the best dose of medicine, and our mere presence can prevent the act from being done.
Remember how Carmina Salvador (Toni Gonzaga) rescued Mark Peters (Piolo Pascual) from committing the same mistake that she did in the 2017 movie "Last Night"?
Carmina made him realize that as long as his heart is still beating, he has a purpose and a reason to never give up. That he can conquer his weaknesses and that swinging with life's ups and downs is what each and every one of us is destined to do.
Know that there are far better things ahead than what we leave behind.
Know that someone out there is ready to listen, ready to care.
