Before she became Darna, Liza Soberano was a superhero in school

While Liza Soberano still has a long journey to go career-wise, she has already left a legacy for her fellow students in St. Patrick’s School: a mini-library.

The young actress, who graduated from high school early this year, recalls how the project came about.

“Every year ang gusto nung mga heads ng school that we at the student council come up with a big project na maiiwang legacy for the students…,” Liza, who was the school’s public relations officer, tells us at the recently held “Forevermore” pocket press conference. “Nag-brainstorm kami, it wasn’t just my idea, it’s everybody’s. We worked together para maging posible ‘yung mini-library na ‘yun.”

Liza hopes that through that project, the love for reading actual books will be reinforced among students.

“Ngayon kasi ang mga teens, mga kids, ang hilig nilang magbasa sa cellphones, or online,” she explains. “Iba kasi talaga ‘pag book mismo, ‘di ba? ‘Yung amoy ng book, and walang ilaw ‘yun ‘di ba, so mas healthy siya sa mata and mas healthy sa brain.”

She then gives her two cents on the importance of reading.

“Gusto naming i-establish na dapat bumalik ‘yung mga bata sa pagbabasa ng totoong books, at bumalik ‘yung hilig nila sa pagbabasa,” she stresses. “Parang nawawala ‘yung humanity ng tao ‘pag laging sa cellphone or computer lang nagbabasa. Para sa’kin hindi ka makakapag-focus sa book if you’re reading on a cellphone.”

An avid reader herself, Liza reveals that one of her latest favorites is “Let It Snow” by “The Fault in Our Stars” author John Green.

Liza will co-star with Enrique Gil in the TV series “Forevermore.” A story about second chances, “Forevermore” is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and Ted Boborol.
