Sampalan, sabunutan, bugbugan: 4 iconic catfights in Star Cinema movies!

Mahirap, mayaman, maging sino ka man, this fact remains true: everyone loves a good catfight.

Today, August 8, we look back on Star Cinema’s best and brightest and most memorable sampalan and sabunutan scenes between the two kinds of characters who most often get into catfights: the legal and the illegal. Some are emotional, some are tragic, but some are downright entertaining. It’s only appropriate to do so because today, we celebrate International Cat Day, and the claws are well and truly out.

1. “No Other Woman”

The movie that perhaps started the craze for mistress movies, “No Other Woman”, first released in 2011, presents us with a masterpiece of a catfight between Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes, whose characters are fighting for the love of Ram, played by Derek Ramsay. Let’s just say Cristine did not hold back in this movie. Sampal kung sampal, suntok kung suntok.

2. “Sin Island”

“Sin Island” has one of the most entertaining catfights in this list, mostly because a psycho stalker being dragged by the hair by a woman in a moving vehicle just scratches an itch inside us that we just can’t put a finger to. Without further ado, here’s Coleen Garcia and Nathalie Hart showing us that with the right cinematography, crazy can be raised to an art.

3. “One More Try”

Tragic by nature, the sampalan between Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin in this movie was already pretty controversial when we first saw it in 2011 but it’s safe to say that it continues to shock us as the years go by. Less of a catfight and more of a full-on violent confrontation, this scene will thrill you, upset you, and finally, put tears in your eyes.

4. “Four Sisters and a Wedding”

Ending this list on a lighter note is this kaladkaran moment between Mocha Uson and Angel Locsin, a little gem towards the end of Cathy Garcia-Molina’s modern classic “Four Sisters and a Wedding”. This, aside from being the subject of our fantasies nowadays more often than not, is a cautionary tale: ‘wag mong tawaging desperada ‘yung girlaloo na inaagawan mo. Echosera ka!
