Ria Atayde has only been active in showbiz for three years, but her body of work is nothing short of impressive. She made her mark playing a kontrabida on TV (like in “My Dear Heart”), and recently people are quoting her sapul-sa-jar line in “The Hows of Us” as Kathryn Bernardo’s friend Awee (“Absence makes the heart go fonder, but presence puts the heart in danger”).
Though Ria admitted that acting is her passion, there’s another side of her that is bound to shine: that of a businesswoman. The 26-year-old actress recently opened LAB by Eyebrowdery, a nail salon with best friend Joseph Marco and his high school classmate Klarisse Tabao. She and Joseph take care of the Marketing side, with Ria also doing mainly the graphics!
“So sa shooting dala ko ‘yung laptop ko, sa taping dala ko ‘yung laptop ko, para at any point na kailangan nila, nakaayos na,” she tells us at the recently held “The Hows of Us” grand media day.
Coming from a family of businessmen (she is the daughter of businessman Art Atayde and lauded actress Sylvia Sanchez), Ria thought that having a similar venture would come naturally for her. But as she discovered, it’s not as easy as it looks!
“Medyo it did naman, pero marami palang struggles,” she confesses. “Na hindi porket na-setup na okay na siya agad. Kailangan mong trabahuhin talaga para ma-secure na okay kayo… parang relationship. I’m learning a lot about Joseph also, na he’s super mature beyond what I know already sa kanya.”
Ria, though, is not one to get bogged down by challenges. She’s already planning to partner with friends in other industries.
“We’re planning to open a food hall in one of the major hotels in the Philippines,” she enthuses.
What got her super-duper excited is her dream of putting up a business in the country’s surfing capital, Siargao.
;I fell in love with Siargao, so I’m exploring the possibilities,” she says. “Ang dami ring nagbi-business sa Siargao. And I love the place. Sobrang na-in love ako na oh my God gusto kong tumira do’n. So any excuse to be in Siargao.”
Ria acknowledges that “The problem with showbiz is instability.” She continues, “There’s no security for… hindi kasi siya constant eh. So I think it’s always gonna be there, it’s what I’m passionate about naman kasi, ‘yun ‘yung passion ko so something that can complement that passion ‘yung businesses.”
If she can nail both, then why not, right? Go Ria! 🙌
