Jake Cuenca became a Kapamilya in 2006 and through the years he has grown to be one of the few young actors whose talent is hard to ignore.
Drawing himself far from the usual, we've seen him play several character-actor roles both in television and films (he slayed his take on Lizardo in "Ang Panday" last Metro Manila Film Festival, that's for sure!) that catapulted him to exceptional status.
And on September 22, Jake is set to headline his first theater show via Duncan Macmillan's 90-minute play "Lungs", opposite Sab Jose.
The actor even shared the things he had to give up in favor of his newfound craft. "Hindi rin naman ako nangangako sa isang tao nang hindi ko kayang ibigay. Hindi ko kayang ibigay ang isang commitment kasi naka-commit ako sa lahat ng 'to. Pati nga triathlon kinailangan kong itigil sandali kasi isang aksidente lang magkakan-leche 'yung play," he related during "The Blood Sisters" Finale Media Con, last Monday, August 13.
He further explained, "Sobrang nagre-rely sila sa amin (Sab), dalawa lang kasi kami, dire-diretsong acting. Basta wala akong work, [nasa] rehearsal ako."
Jake was initially hesitant to accept the role mainly because of time pressure: He was expected to memorize his lines within a month.
Nonetheless, the production gave him ample time to rehearse, to read, and to build a relationship with his co-actor.
"Lungs" will be held at the Power Mac Center Spotlight in Circuit Makati from September 22 to October 7. It centers on parenthood and ecological decision making.
Catch Jake as one of the star-studded cast of Mikhail Red's horror movie "Eerie" co-starring Bea Alonzo, Charo Santos, Maxene Magalona, and more, soon in cinemas.
