Unknown to many, John Lloyd is one of the celebrities who always enjoy traveling outside the country and just be a normal person.
With these travels, he was able to explore more cities, culture and the arts and even history, a #BiyaheGoal for anyone who wants to explore far more than relaxation and escape from the Philippines.
With this, we listed down six #BiyaheGoals for travelers based on the travel experiences shared to us by the one and only John Lloyd Cruz.
1. Immerse yourself in the local scene.
"Kasi you really get to feel 'yung totoong character ng city, totoong character ng lugar and kadalasan sa amin magagawa lang namin 'yun sa ibang bansa. Pero dito? Sobrang daming pwedeng magawa dito kaya lang 'yun nga merong ganoong challenge."
2. Make time to travel with your family.
"I would definitely take my Mom and my Dad 'cause siyempre 'pag nagkaka-edad na ang parents, you wanna spend as much time. I would take them to maybe Napa Valley and then after Napa to New York."
"Madalas kasama ko ang buong pamilya ko eh, as in pinsan, mga tita, tito when we travel. Siguro the last one, the last trip we made to Dakak. Nag-Dakak kami, 'di ba parang 80s? Pero seryoso nag-enjoy talaga kami sa Dakak, dami mong magagawa. Seryoso talagang nag-enjoy 'yung mula bata hanggang matanda maski ako talagang enjoy na enjoy eh. Siguro mga five days yata kami dun kasi andami mo talagang magagawa eh. Merong magandang area na nakuha kami."
3. Allow yourself to get lost in a city on any given day.
"Kahit na sa mga familiar places, kahit sa mga lugar na alam mong pwede kang ring mawala, nasa sa'yo lang 'yan eh."
4. Walk the streets of Manila.
"I've been wanting to walk the streets. Walk ha? Kasi naba-bike ko siya eh, pero 'yung walk the streets of Manila – Binondo, Malate, 'yun 'yung masarap eh, 'yun 'yung masarap gawin na, unfortunately siyempre, naiintindihan naman natin kung bakit mahirap siyang gawin, so I bike."
5. Sometimes, it's not the destination, but the travel companion.
"Out of the country? Besides the Philippines? Oh my goodness. Enjoy ako sa Europe, but I also like Japan. Lagi naman 'yan depende sa kasama mo. Ako kahit saan mo ako ibato, basta kasama ko 'yung mga gusto kong makasama, I’ll be fine. Siguro for us, the family, talagang nag-enjoy din kami sa Japan, 'yung Tokyo, kasi simple lang naman ang ano sa 'kin eh. 'Pag bumabiyahe ka, konti lang naman 'yan eh, unang-una, okay bang kumain diyan? Okay ba ang art scene diyan? Do they have good museums? Shopping? Ngayon sa edad ko parang hindi na 'yun eh, importante sa akin 'yung mga hole-in-the-wall finds eh."
"Like this trip I made to Berlin (Germany), na-surprise talaga ako because I wasn't expecting much, at saka kung paano ini-introduce ng city 'yung sarili niya, kasi minsan parang we're too proud na parang we know everything, na parang 'pag dadating tayo sa bagong city, parang akala mo 'oh I know this city, kabisado ko na 'to, alam ko na 'to i-explore, ang dami ko nang nabasa.'"
6. Wait until the city opens up and introduces itself to you.
"'Yun ang pinakamasarap na experience and I think I was able to experience that in Berlin kasi ganoon eh, parang unti-unti in one week nandoon lang ako. Ganda-ganda.”
As what Gustave Flaubert says, “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”
No wonder John Lloyd, despite being a superstar, remains one of the industry's humblest.
