We saw her first in the film "Seven Sundays" acting as a close friend to Dexter, the character of Enrique Gil -- and she has charmed us ever since. Formerly known as April Matienzo, she now carries the name Charlie Dizon. Why the change?
Enrique Gil, dinepensahan si April Matienzo!
On "Magandang Buhay" last July 4, host Melai Cantiveros revealed that it was ABS-CBN University President and Chief Content Officer Charo Santos-Concio who chose the unisex-sounding name for Charlie. She said, "Konting trivia lang, ang nagbigay ng screen name niya ngayon na Charlie ay si Ma'am Charo [Santos]."
Though new to the showbiz scene, Charlie is no stranger to the industry. Before being cast in ABS-CBN shows, she has worked in a number of commercials.
And when she was younger, Charlie was selected as the first Filipina K-pop group trainee for an entertainment agency in South Korea. However, she was not able to pursue due to legal problems.
'Yun po ang pinaka-down moment ko po noon," she shared.
She may not have continued to become a Korean idol, but Charlie is now making a career in the Philippines and is currently part of the ABS-CBN fantaserye "Bagani".
Asked about how Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano are as co-actors, Charlie related:
Charlie is also part of Star Magic Circle 2018.
"Bagani" airs weeknights after "FPJ's Ang Probinsiyano".
