Jameson Blake is facing criticism following a tweet he sent last night, July 4, asking his fans to send an artwork - the one he’ll choose will get a special shoutout from him on social media.
Netizens blasted how he’s perpetuating the notion of not paying artists for their work, but the fan (@ksteffi_ on Twitter) whose artwork was chosen came to his defense, saying that it’s her choice to do the piece for free.
“I will still be happy whether I get paid or not, kasi nga ‘di naman talaga siya napa-gusapan privately na commission,” she said. “Kung maiisip niya naman na bayaran ako, then I'm glad.”
She furthered that money isn’t what she’s thinking about - she just wants someone to appreciate the work she’s done.
“Kahit sa tingin ng iba ganun lang ‘yon, mas nakakatuwa para sa’tin na they appreciate big or small efforts, and doon mas nagiging eager tayo na mag-strive for something greater,” she said.
As for Jameson, he just tweeted a simple reminder earlier this morning not to let negativity ruin the day.
“Hope everyone has a great day ahead!” he said.
He also posted a public apology this evening, and explained that it was not his intention to degrade the work of artists.
“I know graphic designing isn’t an easy job and it requires a lot of work… I wasn’t obligating anyone to make one. It was just a favor. Probably a shoutout would have done nothing but I could have returned the favor by promoting the artwork,” he said.
