Inigo, to the rescue kay Maris sa 'liberated' issue

Inigo Pascual has spoken up on the issue of his on-screen partner Maris Racal being tagged by some on social media as a liberated girl.

The "liberated" accusations started on Twitter when netizens have speculated that Maris has changed ever since she became friends with Kapamilya actress Bela Padilla.

In a story by PEP yesterday, July 3, Inigo sai:

"Yes, they are friends but it's not [that] they are liberated. "[Maris] is enjoying herself. But in terms of being liberated in a negative way, I do not see that and I do not support that as well. I know Maris, coming from Davao, she's a very conservative girl."

He furthered that if anything, Maris is liberated in a "good way," such as with being true to herself and doing the things she loves.

"I would totally disagree with people [saying] she's liberated in a negative way. Siguro being liberated in a positive way, in expressing yourself and being able to do things you love. That's a good thing," he said.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Bela, Inigo believes that Maris found a big sister in her.

He related, "Sobrang bait na tao ni Ate Bela and for them, hanging out, it's a good thing. Parang naging ate na ni Maris si Ate Bela."

"Siyempre in the industry, there are friends that they're like siblings to you. To have someone that you can relate with, to get along with," he continued.

The "Dahil Sa'yo" hitmaker also commented on the issue that Maris has become daring in her choice of clothes.

Inigo sees no problem with that, saying, "She's at age, she's 20 years old. Honestly, I tell her, I tell her naman if I feel uncomfortable with what she is wearing, when I feel it's too much."

Inigo also believes that Maris dresses appropriately for her age.

"Artista kami, we're supposed to do what we supposed to do. I don't think she's doing anything wrong for people to judge her. She's 20 years old, 'di naman siya lumalabas ng naka-two piece or anything. 'Pag ba nagpunta sa beach, dapat ba naka-long sleeves at jogging pants? Hindi naman. So I wouldn't say there's anything wrong."

Maris also gave statements about the issue in her guesting last July 2 on "Tonight with Boy Abunda".

She said, "For me, being liberated is having the freedom to do whatever you want. And do whatever you think is right kasi may choice naman 'yung mga tao gawin 'yung gusto nila."

Maris also admitted that she was hurt when people accused Bela of being a bad influence to her. "I’m actually very thankful na nakilala ko siya (Bela) kasi very nice siya na babae. Very independent. Very brave..."

Mentioning Bela's talent for writing, she continued, "Shine-share [niya] 'yung magagandang natututunan niya about the [writing] craft, which I admire about her because napakamalalim niyang tao. Sobrang galing siyang magsulat and to call her na bad influence sa akin, sobrang na-hurt ako."
