Zanjoe Marudo really brought his A-game to "Kusina Kings."
The actor, who plays Ronnie in the upcoming comedy, told members of the press at the "Kusina Kings" Bloggers Conference last Tuesday, July 17, that he powered through most of his scenes in the kitchen, as they are the hardest to film.
"Physically, nakakapagod siya. Tapos comedy pa [ang 'Kusina Kings'], 'di naman siya normal na nagluluto lang sa loob ng kusina," he explained, "magalaw eh, malikot 'yung characters namin. Doon sa loob [ng kusina] laging nag-aaway, laging natutumba, may nangyayaring aksidente."
He continued, "Tapos pelikula pa 'to so paulit- ulit, 'yun 'yung pinaka-nakakapagod. Pero siyempre kailangan naming gawin kasi 'di siya magwo-work kung hilaw namin ibibigay 'yung mga eksena."
On-set accidents could very well have been food-related, as Zanjoe worked with a number of fruits and vegetables for his cooking scenes. In fact, in his recent Star Cinema Chat, he implied that a banana might have been one of the culprits, saying, "Makikita niyo sa pelikula 'tong saging na 'to!"
But it seems as though Zanjoe's hard work was worth it, considering the overwhelming response of netizens to the film's trailer, which you can watch here:
"Kusina Kings" tells the story of easy-go-lucky Ronnie (Zanjoe Marudo) and chef Benjie (Empoy Marquez), high school best friends who have been there for each other through thick and thin. As the restaurant they built with their blood, sweat, and dreams struggles to get off the ground, Benjie takes on the Kusina Kings Challenge where they will either win big or go home with nothing.
It also stars Empoy Marquez, Nathalie Hart, Ryan Bang, and Maxine Medina. Catch it in cinemas this July 25!
