Julia Barretto is an inspiration to many - she’s a fierce, smart, and independent woman who won’t stop reaching for greatness, no matter what challenges she has to overcome.
In an open letter she shared on Instagram today, July 17, she recounted how she’s faced so many doubts and judgments - and how she tried to prove all of them wrong.
“In my whole journey as an actress… I was doubted, I was judged, I had to deal with scrutiny from people who did not know me… People did not give me the chance to make some mistakes, learn and to better myself,” she said. “I love what I do and I feel strongly passionate about acting— I’ve always wanted to prove myself. I’ve always wanted to prove my doubters wrong. I’ve always wanted to be more than my last name. I wanted my hard work to get the credit and not my last name.”
Julia continued that she poured all the pain she felt from people’s harsh words into her character Zoey in “I Love You, Hater.” Through the movie, Julia let her walls down and willingly became vulnerable.
“My every heartache, the every pain I felt in my body as Julia, I used Zoey as my outlet. I wanted to speak to people as Julia through Zoey and this is why I embraced Zoey. I embraced this film,” she said.
Because of how special it is to her, Julia affirmed that she won’t let any negativity linger around it, especially since they made the film to give positivity to their audience.
“Our journey has been so magical and special because we are getting the perfect amount of support,” she said. “TRULY, at the end of the day, the Lord’s plan PREVAILS.”
