Ellen Adarna's 'absent for good reason' from cyberbullying hearings

Yesterday, June 25, Ellen Adarna once again missed a preliminary hearing for her cybercrime and child abuse suit, which has been rescheduled thrice to accommodate her pregnancy.

The prosecution released a statement to ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe last night through Myra Abo Santos, the mother of the teenage girl the accused of being a "paparazzi", who voiced her disappointment in the slow pace of her "quest for justice".

She said, "I'm very disappointed with the turn out of today's hearing. Ms. Ellen has been given more than one month to answer the charges. To ask for a resetting again and for two more weeks pa is...sobra na. Maybe their play is to delay the case but, my quest for justice for my daughter is unwavering."

In turn, Ellen's legal counsel led by Atty. Rebo Saguisag spoke to PEP and provided an explanation for his client's consistent absence: a double whammy of a difficult  pregnancy with her first child with boyfriend and rumored fiance John Lloyd Cruz, and of course, the recent passing of her father, Cebu business tycoon Alan Modesto Adarna, who died of cardiac arrest early June.

"May medical certificate [that] advised against any form of travel. Parang may binanggit doon na under normal [ang] fetal weight. Magaan 'yung bata masyado. Again, hindi pinapabiyahe ang aming kliyente. And as you know, she's still in mourning after the death of the father," he said.

Ellen's lawyers have yet to file a counter complaint to move, and instead, have asked the court to once again reschedule until July 9.

“Well, I would understand if you were on the other side, siguro expectation nila makapag-file kami. Siguro naman nagbanggit kami dati, ‘We will try.’ But again, hindi natin alam ang kalagayan ni Ellen. May disclaimer naman po kami nun, two weeks ago, sabi namin hindi namin maipapangako."

Atty. Rebo continued, "May ibang paraan naman [for this case to move forward. Ellen] doesn’t have to go here. Kasi pwede naman 'yung sumpaan, 'yung kontra-salaysay sa piskalya sa Cebu, 'tapos i-submit namin [dito sa Pasig]. However, pati 'yun, binawalan ng kanyang doktor.

"Again, that's the problem, she was advised any form of travel. Ayaw naman namin pilitin. Ayaw muna namin siya ma-stress. Medyo difficult 'yung pregnancy.”

He pressed, "For now, with due respect sa mourning niya, and we just want her to have a safe delivery, ayaw muna namin siyang ma-stress.”

Ellen is currently in her hometown in Cebu, where she is reportedly due to give birth "anytime".
