Ever since his breakout role in “Vince and Kath and James,” people have been hailing Joshua Garcia as one of the most talented actors of his generation, something he really had to prove while working on “I Love You, Hater.”
The actor admitted during the movie’s Grand Media Launch last June 18 that he struggled to play his character Joko because he had to pretend he’s an effeminate gay man.
“Struggle lahat… Sabi ko kay Direk (Giselle Andres), ang hirap nang nagpapanggap,” he said, adding that it’s also hard to get into character because of Joko’s emotional depth.
“'Yung emotion pa hindi lang siya pataas. Tataas siya, bababa, tataas,” he said. “Tinulungan din ako nung makeup artists sa set.”
Meanwhile, Julia shared that Joshua already has some qualities of the gay men she personally knows - honest, fun, and caring.
“Joshua naman is already all that. I feel that he takes good care of me really, really well. He's protective,” she said.
Of course, their co-star Kris Aquino also affirmed Joshua’s unique acting talent.
“He’s so genuine and [may] lalim… hindi siya ever nakalimot ng lines… ganun siya ka-focused,” she said. “He’s so amazing… he’s the real deal.”
Clap, clap, Joshua!
“I Love You, Hater” opens in cinemas July 11.
