Before all the success RK Bagatsing has achieved, he was once like every other hopeful who wanted to make their name in showbiz.
And despite having actor Raymond Bagatsing as his older brother, the 30-year-old actor was insistent that hard work paved the way for his current success.
“I felt that nung name niya was really respected and feeling ko if I use it, parang hindi ako worth it,” he said on last night’s episode of “Tonight With Boy Abunda.”
RK revealed to the King of Talk Boy Abunda how rejection from the numerous auditions and go-sees he attended had him fall into a depression when he was just starting as an actor.
“Masakit eh. Dumating sa point na umabot ako sa depression,” he admitted. “Sabi ko I’ll give myself a time frame - two years. If it doesn’t work out, I go back. Within those two years, ‘yung acting ko, ang dami kong rejections. Like, in a week, I’ll go through like a 100 auditions for commercials, movies, go-sees sa teleseryes - naging numb na ‘ko.”
“I started to question ‘yung abilities ko. I started to question ‘yung itsura ko. Hindi na ‘ko lumalabas ng kwarto. I couldn’t even talk to my family,” he continued.
Luckily, RK realized that he needed help and sought it out from his loved ones who readily listened and helped him. His kuya Raymond, he revealed, also played a big part in his recovery.
“I think I owe it to him the most kaya ako nandito. Siya kasi ‘yung para tumayo ko ding pangalawang daddy,” he said. “Andami niyang binibigay sa ‘king perspective and looking back, I’m so lucky kasi I was able to open up my mind dun sa mga ganung angulo. I’m just really thankful na nandun siya nung time na ‘yun. That’s why I was able to move forward.”
RK is most memorably known for his role as Arnaldo Ardiente-Torillo in the defunct primetime series “Wildflower.” He currently plays David Garcia in the afternoon soap “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi” alongside his brother who plays Virgilio de Alegre.
