Shanti Dope has been invading our radio stations and personal playlists these days with his breakout hit “Nadarang,” but did you know it was iconic rapper Gloc-9 who discovered him?
Gloc-9 shared on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” yesterday, June 13, that it was his producer who introduced Shanti to him. He immediately wanted to sign Shanti to his record label, but he was first asked whether he was “threatened” by the young rapper’s potential.
Of course, Gloc-9 said no.
He furthered that he can’t really be credited for “discovering” Shanti, because he didn’t mold him into the artist he is today.
“Buo na siya nung nakita ko siya, inabot ko lang siya… sa label namin,” he said.
Of course, Shanti is thrilled that he’s living his dream right now, and shared that he picked up his flair for rapping while playing FlipTop with his friends.
“Nadarang” has inspired countless covers on YouTube, including Hashtags Ronnie Alonte and Wilbert Ross! Watch it here.
