Jessy Mendiola spoke up about her own depression after a fan told her “you are nothing” without boyfriend Luis Manzano.
The actress shared on her Instagram Stories yesterday, June 10, that she went on a deep, downward spiral during the times everything she did was bashed, and that she even thought about committing suicide.
“Puro salita ng bashers ang nakikita ko, at pumasok na din sa isip ko ang magpakamatay. Sa araw-araw na nabubuhay ako noon, nagtatanong ako bakit napakasama ng ibang tao mag-isip at magsalita?” she wrote, explaining that she wants her personal experience on mental health to be a lesson for everyone to be careful with their words and actions.
“Mag-isip muna kayo bago kayo magbitaw ng salitang nakakasakit ng ibang tao. Hindi niyo alam ang pinagdaanan o pinagdadaanan nila,” she said. “Hindi biro ang depression at ang bullying… Hindi niyo alam, baka kayo rin nakapatay na.”
Jessy followed up the post by saying no one deserves to be called “nothing.”
“‘You are nothing’ are such strong words. No one deserves those words.”
Other celebrities have also spoken up about mental health, including Khalil Ramos, Sofia Andres, and Vice Ganda, among others.
The film "Last Night," (https://starcinema.abs-cbn.com/movies/last-night) released in 2017, also had mental health at its core.
