Sometimes the happiest people have the most sadness inside them, and this is true for Vice Ganda.
The unkabogable comedian revealed that he has gone through depression very recently, and reached a point where he almost quit showbiz.
“I underwent depression, I actually had to meet a doctor and ask for professional help. Hindi ako makatulog, nagkakaroon ako ng anxiety attack, may mga atake sa’kin na nahihirapan ako magtrabaho… Nagpaalam na nga ako sa management, kung pwedeng hindi muna ako mag-film fest, magbawas ng shows, naging ganun ako,” he told ABS-CBN News yesterday, April 2.
It took him a while to recover, but Vice shared that it was the support of his friends that helped him, especially Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid.
“I had a very intimate talk with [them]... Ang pinakamagandang natutunan ko is ‘yung sinabing ‘The mind is the playground of the devil.’ Lahat tayo may purpose… at ‘yung devil, pinaglalaruan ‘yung utak namin para hindi namin ma-serve ‘yung purpose namin,” he said.
Vice continued that he really felt like he was toyed with by the devil, and made him feel hopeless and unworthy.
“Pinaglaruan ng devil ‘yung isip ko para ma-feel ko na pagod na ako at umayaw na ako, para maisip ko na hindi ako blessed at hindi ako masaya, when in fact I’m so blessed, I’m so happy pala, hindi ko lang napapansin kasi hinayaan ko ‘yung devil na paglaruan ‘yung utak ko,” he said.
He stressed the importance of getting enough rest so we can let go of stress, but he also highlighted the power of positive thinking.
"Of course rest is important… pero mahalaga yung mindset, na piliin mo ‘yung masaya, dapat labanan mo 'yung kalungkutan, isipin mo ‘yung nagpapasaya sa'yo,” he said.
Following his recovery, Vice has found the strength to keep fighting all the negativity.
“Ngayong alam ko nang pinagti-tripan ako nitong devil, hindi ko ito papayagan. Every day, naka-mind set ako, I have to be happy, I embrace my happiness and my blessings, and I have to serve my purpose. Kaya every day sa 'Showtime,' nagpapatawa ako dahil ‘yun ang purpose ko, at ‘yun ang masaya akong ginagawa ko," he said.
Vice was recently named Phenomenal Star of Philippine Cinema with his “The Revenger Squad” co-stars Daniel Padilla and Pia Wurtzbach at the 49th Guillermo Mendoza Box Office Entertainment Awards.
