Michael de Mesa is finally cured from Hepatitis-C.
The actor shared his two-decade-long battle with the virus on his Instagram account yesterday, May 24, writing how his wife Julie Eigenmann was instrumental to his cure.
“My wife Julie never really stopped searching for the cure. Four years ago, the cure for Hep-C was released but it was outrageously expensive… Luckily, Julie was able to find a generic version from India which was just $1,000 for the WHOLE 12-week treatment already,” he said.
Michael started the treatment November last year, and immediately got positive results.
“Before treatment, my viral count was in the millions. 35 Million to be exact! After just four weeks into the treatment, my viral count went down to 1,200… By the end of the treatment, it was zero, zilch, nada, UNDETECTED! Got re-tested this week after three months post-treatment just for good measure, and it’s still undetected,” he said.
It was also the perfect present for him as he celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday.
“I want to thank the Lord for another year of life. I also want to thank Him for bringing Julie into my life, making her His instrument, so that I can enjoy many more years with my loved ones,” he said.
Michael currently stars in the primetime drama “Since I Found You.”
